Seattle has a reputation for being green, both literally and figuratively, but a 2014 Seattle Times article suggests that we are falling short on our urban tree canopy, i.e. the layer of leaves, branches, and stems that cover the ground when viewed from above. Trees house birds, insects, and animals and they also provide vital resting and refueling sites for migratory birds. The Seattle Audubon has developed a 4-year Neighborhood Flyways campaign to restore local and migratory bird habitat by connecting the tree canopy across Seattle. This event will cover a variety of topics including urban forestry opportunities and challenges; Seattle’s density policies and tree ordinances; environmental justice and community engagement; restoring urban and natural habitats for birds, wildlife, and human communities; and more.
Speakers will include representatives from: Seattle Audubon, the City of Seattle, Seattle Public Utilities, Urban Forest Carbon Registry, the Seattle Parks Foundation, and The Nature Conservancy.

Agenda:
2:00-4:00 Introductory presentations
4:00-4:30 Social time, snacks and networking
4:30-5:30 Panel discussion and audience Q&A
5:30-7:00 Define advocacy priorities and next steps

Presented by: Seattle Audubon Society, City Of Seattle, Seattle Public Utilities, The Nature Conservancy, Seattle Parks Foundation, and Urban Forest Carbon Registry
