Youth Speaks is a collective for young aspiring poets offering mentor programs, year-long slams, open mic nights, and workshops in local schools. In this culmination of the 2017 season, 10 aspiring young artists will share stories of love, loss, resistance, and survival. From these, five talented poets will move on to represent Seattle at Brave New Voices, the International Youth Poetry Slam Festival in San Francisco. This event is hosted by Seattle-based creative, anti-racist organizer, and attorney Nikkita Oliver and features local singer-songwriter Otieno Terry. Experience the raw power of the spoken word.
The Grand Slam is Youth Speaks Seattle’s biggest annual fundraiser. This event supports youth-led programs such as writing circles, open mics, poetry slams and paid internships.
