Eastside Audubon Adult Education Opportunity
Class on May 4th with an optional field trip either May 6th or May 7th
Eastside Audubon is pleased to welcome back instructor and Master Birder, Penny Rose, who will be teaching a class on birding by ear. The focus is on birds who migrate through the Puget Sound area this time of year. An evening of classroom instruction will be followed by an optional field trip that weekend.
Registration is limited to 12 for the option with both class instruction plus the field trip. A maximum of 24 will be enrolled for the class only option. See details and links for registration below.
We will focus on the common migrants arriving in the varied habitats of Puget Sound lowlands. Through class presentation of songs and calls accompanied by slides we will untangle the mysteries of migrant vocalizations. The field trip will emphasize discovering and identifying migrants at Juanita Bay Park.
Students choosing the field trip option can pick from either Saturday or Sunday. Field trip participants should be ready for the early morning start time in typical Northwest Spring weather.
Penny has taught a variety of birding classes for North Seattle and Bellevue College for the last five years and is certified through Seattle Audubon’s Master Birder program. She has served on the Board of the Washington Ornithological Society for four years as the Vice-President and President, and is currently their interim President. She has worked as a naturalist and education specialist at Discovery Park for a number of years and especially enjoys teaching and leading field trips for other birders.
The classroom session on Thursday, May 4th is from 7-9 p.m. and will be held at Eastside Audubon’s office at Northlake Unitarian Church, 308 4th Avenue S. Kirkland, Washington.
A field trip day can be picked from either the following Saturday or Sunday. Class on those days is from 7:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Juanita Bay Park.
