Amelia is a Spirit Energy driven artist, borrowing voice, motion & word to fashion decorated landscapes of wild (as in free) expression. Her powerful sonic shares, known & shown to and thru her as «voice-lighting», traverse & relay spiritual-emotional insights, from simple to supernatural. Immersed sometimes in beauty, other times in brutality, Amelia is an unadulterated Truth sayer, as well as a card-carrying bullshi*t slayer. By improvisation, & usually fully overcome by unseen, unprovable forces, Amelia explores & restores malnourished aspects of humanity, layering and looping sounds; reweaving with that from which we have been violently unwoven. The ever, and always, most essential of all being «radical vulnerability!» This is the pounding heart of Amelia's Blues Brothers style artistic mission. Her personal projects include 'The Indigo' and 'Lovepunk' and can be enjoyed in intimate spaces about Seattle.
Crystal Beth (Fleenor) believes that art is the discipline of being – it can be recognized in every aspect of daily life, and utilized to access a deeper connection to oneself and the world/environment that surrounds us. Music, as a medium, can be created out of anything, anytime, anywhere, and used as a tool for communication, compassion, understanding, and the instantaneous transmission of complex experience. Life is a series of experiences, that no one else can experience, that everyone is experiencing simultaneously. Within each individual resides an entire galaxy of experience. Entire worlds – collisions – births –and every single one of these experiences is mapped in our brain and tattooed on our soul. It’s living within us. Humans – all humans – need a way to process our authentic experience of that individual existence. We need a way to deal with ourselves – a way to deal with all of it – to release the immense complexity of consciousness. We need opportunities to process both the negative and the positive, the difficult and the joyous. We need to let ourselves explore all of it so that we can catch up with ourselves and move forward from a present state. A state of activated awareness. To aid the release, we need focusing agents – symbols – rituals – a form…they are a means of balancing what is inside with what is outside. A container to pour the emotional experience into. For certain happenings we have culturally tagged them – “funeral” “wedding” – but there are millions of experiences each day….the weight of all of that must be released through the individual, with each breath. Crystal Beth believes in the power of sound to clear the body and cleanse the soul.
Spite House Concerts started in 2013 as a venue for new music. Beloved by Seattle's improvisation communities, the series continues every Tuesday evening. Concert artists are selected by a rotating group of curators, local musicians devoted to finding Seattle's most interesting and unique new music.
The third set is open to improvisers. Audience members are welcome to bring voices and other instruments. After the featured artist concert (10:30pm or later, depending) we form up spontaneous duos and small ensembles to create a set of impromptu music magic.
$20 Donation encouraged, not required. All donations are accepted with gratitude. We love supporting live, local musicians! Also welcome: donations of food & drink to complement what is always on hand in the kitchen.
