Gratitude is the first thing that comes to mind. We love YOU & appreciate you — our friends & fam & supporters, YOU the dancers & fellow house heads & DJs & artists & music lovers & enthusiasts!
The global electronic music scene has changed & grown tremendously since we first started Uniting Souls in SF in 1997, but one thing which has remained constant is our mission & vision for Uniting Souls — to build community, and foster connection, through creative expression & art-focused gatherings, with heart-centered spaces where ALL feel welcome.
UNITING SOULS — ANECDOTAL HISTORY BY RAMIRO
Uniting Souls was born in the summer of 1997 in San Francisco, when a friend asked me to help him produce a benefit for a children's advocacy non-profit group. I had already been producing shows for a couple of years then, with the help of friends, but we didn't have a collective name. The group of us that ended up working on this fundraiser event called «For The Children,» spent an entire summer together, planning, creating, manifesting (this group included myself, Mikey Tello, David Behnken, Shawn Hanna, Emily Griffin, Donna Martinez, Jason Henry, my brother Moses, and many others).
Upon the conclusion of the For The Children event a few months later, we decided that we should continue to work together as a collective. We became US (Uniting Souls).
We felt that Uniting — not United — was essential to the name, as «United» implies past tense, while «Uniting» is present tense, ongoing, and an action as well.
As Uniting Souls, we produced dozens of fantastic events in San Francisco throughout the mid-to-late 1990s, including the Sunshine Daydream daytime party series, the original Housepitality parties, and our monthly Sound Textures (which continued in Seattle). Our Los Angeles fam also contributed by producing several unforgettable underground events, including the Native parties.
In 2000, I moved to Seattle, and our beloved Emerald city became the new home of Uniting Souls. We produced events at The Showbox (back when there was only one), I-Spy/Nation (with Steven Severin), The Bohemian, The Baltic Room (Life, with Viva), Chop Suey (Om Records showcases, Casa del Ritmo with Wesley & Kiki & Ken), Rebar, Neumos, Trinity (during their first couple of years in operation), See Sound Lounge, Church of Bass, ETG, Substation, and our current home, The Monkey Loft.
And of course, there were the Magnetic/Kinetic parties at the Pacific Science Center with Infinite Connections, and the Aquafunk & Future Funk/Decibel boat parties, and our outdoor co-promote with Innerflight, Natural Mystic.
We also took part in & produced Uniting Souls showcases with our Starborne & LiveNLove families at top area festivals, including Cascadia, Hempfest, Photosynthesis, as well as SEAF (Seattle Erotic Art Festival), and the Internationally-acclaimed Decibel Festival.
This amazing PNW community has contributed to growing & nurturing US to our current state. Our Uniting Souls Music record label has featured several chart-topping releases, with sales in over 70 countries, been charted by the likes of Mark Knight, Claude Von Stroke & Green Velvet, licensed to top labels & services including Toolroom (UK), Balance (Australia), Exotic Refreshment (Poland), NordicTrax (Canada), and SF's legendary Om Records.
We've been blessed to work with superb, talented artists, leaders in the industry — from Mark Farina, Doc Martin, Derrick Carter, Little Louie Vega, Miguel Migs, Marques Wyatt, Johnny Fiasco, Roy Davis Jr, Jimpster, DJ Heather, Lisa Shaw, Alexander East, and Kaskade to Claude Von Stroke, Justin Martin, Lee Burridge, Atish, Ripperton, Wolf + Lamb, Catz-n-Dogz, Sasha, Robert Babicz, Audion, Kevin Yost, Boo Williams, Gene Farris, Onionz, Joeski, Inland Knights, Luke Solomon, Pete Moss, and dozens of others — including the incredible roster of local & regional amazing talent of our Pacific Northwest & West Coast (too many to name, but seriously honored to be a part of this wonderful community).
I'm thrilled & immensely grateful to have the opportunity to welcome so many of our loved ones (some with 20+ years of friendship, and also some more recent, as well as the new friends & connections we are bound to make the night of), from up & down the coast, to all come together on July 29th in Seattle, ALL OF US UNDER ONE ROOF (and a rooftop too, ha ha) for this very special celebration, so dear to my heart. It would mean the world to me (and US) if you could join US. Let's celebrate together on the dance floor!
When you boil it down to its essence, it is the coming together of our tribes which makes what we have so special, and the music is the catalyst for that uniting of souls which we so cherish.
Lastly, to my entire Uniting Souls fam, I am eternally grateful for you. You guys are truly amazing & I love you with all my heart.
In Love & Gratitude,
— your brother Ramiro
«UNITING SOULS has contributed to setting standards as to what the Seattle electronic music community has to offer on a local and international level. It is because of organizations like Uniting Souls that Seattle is a favorite stop among touring electronic musicians. With e-mail, smart phones, cheap flights, declining costs in music production, and the explosion of information technology, the face of the global music community is rapidly changing, but it is collectives like Uniting Souls that are evolving right alongside to help define and retain humanness in the often impersonal world we've created.»
