GROW is a multidisciplinary group of students with a shared interest in global health and community outreach. Through GROW, 4 current physical therapy students been given the opportunity to travel to Cusco, Peru this September to volunteer with an incredible NGO called Manos Unidas (MU).
Founded in 2008, MU is Peru’s first and only not-for-profit private school for children with disabilities. MU’s mission is to maximize the abilities and potential of individuals with developmental disabilities through a humanistic, personalized education, honoring such principles as respect, justice, and tolerance for all community members. While GROW members are in Cusco, they will be providing long term physical therapy solutions for the children at MU in order to help improve their quality of life and facilitate successful integration into their communities. And on top of that, they will also be completing in-service presentations for the staff of Manos Unidas in order to enhance the sustainability of their service.
GROW’s goal is to raise $12,000 to cover airfare, housing, volunteer fees, and medical equipment that will be donated to MU.
