Reception with live music
Nalini Balbir, Universite Sorbonne-Nouvelle (Paris) discusses Jain manuscript culture and communities in 15th-century North India, from the use of palm leaves to the brilliantly illuminated 15th-century manuscripts on paper.
Ayla Joncheere, Ghent University (Belgium), uses lecture and dance to reflect on identity and cultural consumption in creating tradition through Rajasthani Kalbeliya dance, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
A reception follows to celebrate the museum’s future, with Bijli— an electric Indian fusion band. Enjoy the real-time beats of DJ Anup Shastri with the intoxicating sounds of sarod and tabla by Brandon McIntosh and Chaz Hastings.
