In the early 90's, a deep funk revival was occurring on both sides of the Atlantic, pioneered by DJs searching back in time for obscure, mostly instrumental funk records that sounded fresh to a new generation. As this cult following of deep funk enthusiasts grew, it wasn't long before new artists started to create recordings that captured this vibe and glanced backwards to an era of pocket driven music, rooted in the funk philosophy which was bestowed primarily by the Godfather of Soul, James Brown.

Recorded dirty, live on the floor, and with now seemingly archaic analog techniques, these new recordings (sometimes disguised as «found classics» ) started to reach the ears of musicians and music fans worldwide. The genre began to spread like wildfire influencing more collectors, new bands, studios, and talent buyers who started seeking out these artists for live festival performances.

Today, this revival is continually elevated by the global demand for vinyl records and the ever-expanding live music/festival scene and culture that exists in the US. Many of the bands that have influenced Polyrhythmics, as well as our peers, were born out of this deep funk revival and we are excited to perform and share some of that music (as well as some of our own) with you at Nectar Lounge on Fat Tuesday, Feb 13th 2018.
